Description

The Department of Religion at Smith College invites applications for a 1-year, benefits eligible position at the rank of Lecturer in African and/or Afro-Caribbean religions to begin July 1, 2025. Teaching responsibilities will include 5 courses at the survey and upper levels, with an emphasis on the indigenous traditions of sub-Saharan Africa and/or the Caribbean. Courses might include a first-year seminar, a general introduction, one or more specific theme-focused courses, and possibly a comparative course that puts the religious traditions of Africa or the Caribbean in conversation with other religions beyond those respective regions. Ph.D. or ABD status in a relevant field is expected by the time of appointment.
